Chalkhill is
a pioneering Internet and television soap opera, consisting solely of
and produced entirely by members of the community in Portsmouth, United
Kingdom. They have featured extensively in the news and other media,
and the show broadcasts on the digital television station, Community
Channel in the UK.
The new web site, launched in May 2007, consisted of the following features:
- Content management system for recent news
- Opt-in newsletter registration system
- Account registration and login protected downloads
- DRM protected video media
- Web based enrolment system
An exciting feature of this web site is the protection of digital content. Although the episodes are free-to-view, in order to build up a substantial marketing database it was a requirement to request registration to gain access to the video downloads. The DRM protection of each file further ensures that even if it is subsequently made available via P2P, that any recipient will in turn be required to register with Chalkhill in order to unlock the file.
